Anja Juurikkala Bowl
A decorative bowl by Anja Juurikkala, handmade in the art studio of Arabia, Finland, circa 1958.
The interior of this tactile piece features a richly textured cobalt glaze. The pitted glaze is vibrant blue with delicate shades of aqua, green & ochre. The bright interior is contrasted with a copper-brown lustre applied to the bowl's outside; this rich reddish-brown glaze contains oxides, lending a subtle sheen.
The bowl's aesthetic is bold yet organic, typical of the renowned output of the art studio of Arabia, Finland.
Anja Juurikkala joined Arabia in 1946 where she designed predominantly slip-cast figurines for serial production, along with wonderfully illustrative hand-painted patterns for dinnerware depicting fish & other animals. Her studio pieces such as this bowl, handmade by the artist herself, demonstrate her skill as a potter.
