Antique 'Nippon Shōyu' Bottle
An antique stoneware bottle designed and made in Japan as a receptacle for Japanese Soy Sauce, circa 1920.
The hand-thrown bottle has a wonderfully classical yet unfussy silhouette. The gracefulness of the form is complimented by how elegantly the graphic design has been arranged.
Visually balancing the shouldered body of the grey clay vessel and trademark -transfer printed in navy blue- is the thick black glaze that coats the neck and rim of the bottle.
