Berndt Friberg's ceramics for Gustavsberg are some of the finest examples of wheel-thrown pottery of the 20th century. His stunning portfolio of work is characterised by intricate glazes, exquisite forms, and an unsurpassed level of skill & craftpersonship.

This large shallow bowl was handmade by Friberg in 1969, and features a stunning "galaxy" glaze of purple, green & blue.

The centre of this large dish is defined by the dramatic and beautiful deep-purple speckled glaze, which features an interstellar bright blue burst of colour which is highly reminiscent of a galaxy in space. The bowl's wonderful aubergine interior fades gently towards the rim, turning into a light turquoise blue. Friberg's masterful blend of coloured glazes continues on the bowl's exterior, where the dominant hues are turquoise and dark grey. The bowl's foot features brightly pigmented areas of green and cyan blue. The whole object is beautifully speckled with a fine dash of grey flecks which give visual texture to the piece. The large bowl features subtle beading around the rim; Friberg has impressed many circles to the objects outer edge, to catch and pool the glaze in a decorative fashion. This gives the bowl an even richer visual appeal.

The refined shape of this exceptional shallow bowl showcases Friberg's mastery as a potter. With its exquisite curved walls, gently flared rim and subtle-yet-deep foot, it evokes a sense of timeless elegance reminiscent of ancient Chinese ceramics, which served as a significant source of inspiration for Friberg's artistic vision.
