Carl-Harry Stålhane Large 'SHX' Bowl
A large 'SHX' bowl designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand, Sweden, C. 1955.
Stålhane's 'Alphabet' vases & bowls were produced by Rörstrand during the 1950's and 60's. These highly collectable ceramics are named 'Alphabet' due to the three-letter system that identifies each shape. This exquisite bowl, known simply as 'SHX', has a softly triangular form with a flared rim. This shape was produced in a number of sizes, and this is a larger example.
The bowl is gentle and organic in form, and features a delicate pale-yellow glaze. The refined glaze has subtle variations, not only in colour but also in texture; whilst the bowl is predominantly matte finish, the special glaze features an intricate & naturalistic pattern which catches the light and has a silky sheen.
The Rörstrand factory are not only revered for their elegant glazes & refined forms. Their designers pioneered the style of Sweden's Modernist ceramics during the 1950's, and made a significant impression on the prevailing aesthetics of the Mid-20th Century Scandinavian home.
