Annikki Hovisaari Bud Vase
A small yet impactful vase by Annikki Hovisaari for Arabia, Finland, C.1960.
Annikki Hovisaari began her career in Arabia’s department of industrial art in 1949, where she predominantly designed decorative items for large scale production. She designed handmade items too, including a series of small yet delightful vases with undulating forms which were available in a variety of glazes.
This vase is part of this collectable series and features a particularly attractive turquoise-green dappled glaze. The intricate glaze is covered in beautiful blots and freckles reminiscent of a duck's dappled egg.
The gentle shape of this vase takes inspiration from ancient Chinese ceramics, with its distinctive ballooning shoulder and narrow footprint. The exquisite form, paired with the varied glaze, makes this piece a fantastic example from Arabia's golden age.
