Gunnar Nylund Miniature Onion Vase
A miniature onion vase, designed by Gunnar Nylund and produced at Rörstrand, Sweden, around 1948.
Rörstrand's miniature vases became increasingly popular in the 1950's and 60's, with exquisite designs by Gunnar Nylund and Carl-Harry Stålhane maintaining their appeal amongst collectors. This early example dates from around 1948, and is a stylistically unconventional piece for any collection.
The distinct vase features a beautifully curved & tapered body with a form reminiscent of an onion dome. The narrow mouth of the vase is embellished with a faint incised line, whilst the flared foot is decorated with a fluted pattern. Although the shape of this piece is both eye-catching & unconventional, it maintains an elegant & refined appearance.
The glaze is a soft & delicate yellow-brown hue with darker areas of ochre, which appear over the object in a gently mottled effect.
