Stig Lindberg Unique Vase
This unique vase was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced in the art studio of Sweden's foremost ceramics manufacturer, Gustavsberg, in 1970.
The vase features Lindberg's signature combination of impressed surface patterns and earth-like hues; attributes that define his unique works of the 1960's & 70's. The distinctive shape and glaze of this object perfectly demonstrate Lindberg's ability to infuse a tangible sense of playfulness into his masterful creations with the employment of highly unusual forms and unconventional glazing techniques.
This vase's glaze features an earthy under-layer of a sandy taupe, with dark areas of brown-black which have been creatively applied to the object with a dry sponge resulting in a dappled & varied surface.
The vase has a striking silhouette with the narrow neck and exaggerated mouthpiece. The main body of the piece has been paddled (flattened on four sides) to create a gently curved cuboid shape. Each of the four flattened walls features an abstract impressed pattern of circles which are enhanced by the glazing technique.
