Tamara Aladin 1749 Carafe
This carafe is one of Tamara Aladin's earliest works for Riihimäki, dating from the beginning of her career in 1960. The introductory design not only conveys Aladin's initial want to blur the limitations between functional & decorative objects, but also shows clearly her intrinsic & playful affiliation with geometry; attributes so greatly associated with Aladin's entire portfolio.
This early object consists of a tall cone atop a sphere. An elegant triangular handle has been applied by hand, and the object handmade from attractive lilac glass.
The carafe's beautifully dramatic shape displays Aladin's popular design ethos of bold geometry. Her extraordinary talents for designing eye-catching geometric glass would define her career & would greatly influence Riihimäki Glassworks' aesthetic of the 1960's.
