Erik Höglund Grey Carborundum Vase
A grey 'Carborundum' vase by Erik Höglund, designed circa 1955 for Boda, Sweden.
This elegant vase is part of an experimental series by Höglund in which silicon carbide was added to the molten glass. This technique gives the glass an unconventional depth of character with an even covering of tiny metallic speckles.
Höglund's 'Carborundum' items are more commonly found in a blue colour. They were first presented to the public in 1956, and were in production for only a short time.
This wide vase is a decorative & versatile object from this highly desirable series. The subtle form is reminiscent of ancient ceramic vessels which were a source of inspiration for Höglund throughout his career.
