Erik Höglund Person Moneybox
A rare moneybox by Erik Höglund for Boda Trä, Sweden, circa 1963.
We acquired this pine moneybox from a lady who said it was purchased directly from Erik Höglund himself. This is one of just a few known examples of the design. One other can be found in the permanent collection at the Blekinge Museum in Karlskrona, the city of Höglund's birth.
The item was handmade at the Boda Trä workshop, Sweden, in the early 1960's. The figural form is very typical of Hoglund's often playful and humorous work. The wooden figure features a nose, eyes, and a mouth through which coins can be placed. Any money inserted can be retrieved by unscrewing a brass disk on the base.
