Erik Höglund Pine Bowl
A staved pine bowl by Erik Höglund for Boda Trä, Sweden, circa 1965.
The distinct form of this handmade bowl not only reflects the unconventionality associated with Höglund's popular & instantly likeable work, but also echoes the cheerful spirit of the 1960's with its Modernist 'hooped' design. Handmade from beautifully grained Swedish pine, this unusual bowl is a practical addition to any collection of Nordic design.
Erik Höglund is best known for his works in glass, but the popularity of his designs in wood lead Boda glassworks to expand the company in the early 1960's to include a woodworks, Boda Trä.
The workshop utilised the strong traditions of woodworking in the village, employing local craftspeople to create exciting Modernist pieces designed by some of the most notable figures in Swedish design. Intent on marrying cutting-edge design with longheld tradition, all items from the Boda Trä workshop were created from local Swedish timber, rather than fashionable teak.
