A footed dish by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden, circa 1960.
The exact function of this rare and unusually shaped piece of Rörstrand is somewhat unclear. However, considering the era in which it was designed and made, we think it was most likely intended to be used as an ashtray.
The footed dish is a particularly quirky example of Nylund's design for functional household items. The striking form has four feet, a spout (or cigarette rest), and features a fluted handle. The piece has been glazed in a tawny copper-red, and features the beautiful satin finish typical of Rörstrand's output.

The unconventional form of this object would lend a new dimension to any Nylund collection.
