Helena Tynell Large Uranium Aurinkopullo
A large Aurinkopullo in uranium glass, designed by Helena Tynell for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, Finland, 1963.
The Aurinkopullo (Sun Bottle) is perhaps Tynell's most famous design. The circular, concave bottle features a small circle in centre, the sun, from which beams radiate in a textured pattern.
The popular design was scaled into four sizes and produced in at least 19 different colours. This example, the second largest, stands at 23cm, and was handblown using uranium glass.
Helena Tynell is one of the most notable Finnish glass designers of the 20th century. Her cheerful, tactile designs from the 1960's are enduring, instantly recognisable, and highly collectable.
