This sculptural vase belongs to Hertha Bengtson's imaginative series of stoneware art-objects produced at Höganäs around 1964.
The unconventional shape and surprising applied decoration, that sits like a Jacobean ruff around the neck of the vase, show Bengtson taking part in the optimistic and playful 'pop' stylings of the 1960's.
The shapes found in the form are new, fun and exciting. However, interestingly, the muted sage-green celadon glaze is firmly historic. In our opinion, this creates a well-balanced object whose aesthetic appeal has stood the test of time.
