Industrial Foundry Mould Wall Hanging
A handmade & hand-painted large wooden positive mould, which can be wall-hung.
This sculptural piece was once used in the production of machine parts by the German company Stromag, as indicated from its markings. The form has been precisely carved for use in the sand-casting of metal and dates from the mid-twentieth century.
In its working life, this object would have been pressed into sand to create a negative cavity. Poured into the mould cavity would have been a molten metal which, once cooled, takes the form of the finished part.
The decorative wall hanging features numerous pen markings and codes from its previous life in industry. The bright red paint is not only eye-catching, making a great interior piece, but originally served a purpose to protect the object & aid its removal from the moulding material.
