Jacob Bang 'Grøn Serie' Carafe
This elegant carafe is part of Jacob Bang's 'Grøn Serie' (Green Series), which includes decanters, carafes and glasses all produced in an attractive teal-green glass at Kastrup glassworks, Denmark.
Most shapes from this series were originally designed in 1957 as part of Bang's popular 'Opaline' range, where they were produced in opaque white glass. The collection was then expanded and produced in green from 1960 onwards.
As with 'Opaline', different variations of each design were produced, and examples with the applied rattan collar are the most desirable amongst collectors. The warm, organic colours of both the vintage rattan and hand-lathed teak stopper lend this curved carafe a striking and sophisticated decorative appeal.
Jacob Bang is regarded as one of Denmark's first industrial designers. His long career was instrumental in the success of Danish design from the Art Deco period up until the Modernism of the 1950's and 60's.
