Jacob Bang Opaline Carafe
A milk-glass pitcher with brass handle designed by Jacob E. Bang for Kastrup Glassworks, Denmark, 1957.
Bang was one of the main exponents of functionalism in Danish glass and one of the country's first industrial designers.
At first glance, the white and gold colour combination of this carafe suggests it is an elaborate piece. However, looking past the opaline glass, the shape of the vessel is brilliantly economic and ergonomic.
The design was produced without a metal handle by default. The Dansk Glasværk Reference Museum suggest the handle found on this item was employed for a custom order the factory received. The model number of the standard hand-blown vessel is 7179.
