Jacob Bang Stoneware Vase
A hand-thrown, hand-glazed stoneware vase designed by Jacob Bang and produced at the studio of his brother, Arne, during the 1960's.
Both brothers were an integral part of Denmark's huge success on the world stage of design during the 20th Century. The younger brother, Arne, is a celebrated ceramicist whilst Jacob, the designer of this piece, is one of Denmark's first industrial designers and is best known for his functionalist yet sculptural works in glass.
This studio pottery vase is a rare insight into Jacob's work in ceramics. The rotund, collared vessel is reminiscent of functional Viking pottery found in Denmark, which often features a round body with flared rim.
