Jacob Bang Large Opaline Decanter
An enormous conical decanter by Jacob Bang, hand-blown in milk glass with a teak stopper and rattan grip.
This decanter was designed in 1957 as part of Jacob Bang's 'Opaline' series, which includes decanters, carafes and glasses all produced in an opaque white glass. Variations of each design were produced, and examples with the applied rattan collar are the most desirable amongst collectors. The warm, organic colours of both the vintage rattan and hand-lathed teak stopper are in harmonious contrast with the white glass, making this exceedingly tall form a striking yet sophisticated decorative object.
Jacob Bang is regarded as one of Denmark's first industrial designers. His long career was instrumental in the success of Danish design from the Art Deco period up until the Modernism of the 1950's and 60's.
