Jens Quistgaard Four 'Luna' Candlesticks

A group of four silver plated candlesticks by Danish designer Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs, 1968.

These elongated candlesticks feature 8 bands. In the upper straightsided section of the candleholders, these are placed apart regularly. However, in the tapering base, the bands are placed in a rhythm which suggests regularity. Each band is geometrically incised. Softening the industrial feel of the aforementioned is the slender waist, connecting the base and upper section. Overall, the slender and dramatic form is typical of Quistgaard's sculptural approach to product design. 

Jens Quistgaard was a seminal designer who greatly helped to popularise the 'Danish Modern' aesthetic during the 1950's and 60's, especially in the USA.
