Jens Quistgaard Round Ice Bucket
A teak ice bucket designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs, Denmark, 1960's.
Quistgaard's renowned sculptural approach to homeware design is observed in the subtleties of this ice bucket's form. The lid is a concave disk, hollowed out by a skilled woodworker, whilst the staved bucket's walls are gently tapered. The handle's oversized proportions are bold yet completely harmonious.
The sculptural object features a plastic liner, and is a completely practical piece of vintage Scandinavian design.
Jens Quistgaard's influence & importance is most notable in the USA, where his design work for Dansk was so successful that one could argue that, by the 1960's, your dinner party was simply not 'modern' without the presence of his work.
