A tall ovoid shaped teak ice bucket with high carrying handle, lid, and orange plastic liner. Designed circa 1955. Accompanying are a pair of brass ice tongs, of the same age. The sleek elongated ice bucket, carved from staved teak, is one of Jens Quistgaard's most recognisable designs for Dansk. Perhaps, in part, due to its inclusion in the permanent collection of more than 23 museums around the world.

Quistgaard trained as a sculptor but learnt wood carving at an early age. The staved construction of the ice bucket was inspired by his study of the wooden hulls of Viking ships. Its fluid all in-one design is typical of his sculptural approach.

The bucket is composed of 48 pieces of 100-year old Siamese teak which have been hand-doweled and hand-glued together before carving. Inside the bucket, which is sometimes referred to as 'Congo', is an orange plastic liner, indicating that this is an earlier production piece. The complementary brass ice nips are stamped 'Illum Bolighus', a Copenhagen based high-end retailer. Although, the design is either made by Carl Auböck II or paying homage to the Auböck Werkstätte.
