Jens Quistgaard 'Tripod' Candle Holders
A pair of cast iron 'Tripod' candle holders, designed by Jens Quistgaard in 1961 for Dansk Designs, Denmark.
Quistgaard is highly regarded for his sculptural approach to homeware design, and his stylistic contributions to the mid-20th century domestic setting. His influence & importance is most notable in the USA, where his design work for Dansk was so successful that one could argue, by the 1960's, that your dinner party was simply not 'modern' without the presence of his work. During this period, Jens Quistgaard designed a vast array of strikingly modernist candle holders to adorn fashionable dining tables across Denmark and the USA.
This distinctive pair of iron candle holders consist of two sculptural concave triangles, and each 'Tripod' has three tapering spiked feet. The sharpness of the design, along with the manufacturing method, seem almost inspired by an early science-fiction aesthetic. The curved forms and triangular shape mean the pair can be placed in many attractive arrangements.
The candle holders are offered with their original box.
