Kaj Franck 1610 Cocktail Pitcher
A vibrant ruby red cocktail pitcher with a geometric form, designed by Kaj Franck in 1954 and expertly hand-blown at Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.
Franck was paramount in the development of Finland's modern aesthetic during the mid-20th century. He is best known for his utilitarian wares in glass and ceramics, which exploit both the practicality and beauty of crisp, clean geometry.
Franck's utilitarian wares are still influencing product design today, whilst remaining thoroughly modern after 70 years.
The 1610 Cocktail Pitcher is one of Franck's best known designs. It was produced between 1954-1966, and is rarely seen in red.
The red colourway of glass objects from Nuutajärvi, and from other glassworks, were more expensive to produce, and to buy, than the other colour options. This is due to the red coloured glass being achieved with the use of real gold. For this reason, the red colourway of any glass design is most often the hardest to find.
