Kaj Franck 539 "Pokaali" Goblet
A vibrant orange, red and black coloured art goblet designed by Kaj Franck in 1972.
This model KF 539 was turn mould-blown and flared by hand at Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland’s leading artistic glassworks. Also known as “pokaali” (trophy) on account of the large and varying sizes in which they were created (16cm – 21.5cm) these objects were made between 1972 and 1977 in several colour combinations.
Kaj Franck designed art glass alongside everyday glassware throughout his career, beginning during his early years at littala (1946-1949) and subsequently at Nuutajärvi.
The palette of colours Franck used in his art glass was much wider than the one he favoured for his everyday glassware, as can be seen in this highly colourful goblet, for he could make use of rod colours alongside the standard ones.
Franck's unique pieces reveal an artistic side to his creative personality that is perhaps largely unknown to most, as his greatest legacy is that the utilitarian designs used today are still inspired by Franck more than any other.
Like every unique piece approved by Franck this goblet is hand signed 'Kaj Franck Nuutajärvi Notsjö.
