Kaj Franck Blue 1609 Pitcher
An intensely deep blue coloured glass model 1609 carafe designed by Kaj Franck for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland.
This ergonomic pitcher, with its minimalist cylindrical form, was designed by Kaj Franck in 1954. The simple yet striking design won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957. Inspired by laboratory glass, the Modernist piece was hand-blown by the expert glassmakers at Nuutajärvi, between 1954 and 1965.
Nearly 70 years later, the 1609 pitcher, along with many of Franck's other utilitarian wares, continues to influence contemporary product design while growing in collectibility. This enduring success is a testament to the extremely high level of consideration in the designs of Kaj Franck.
