Kaj Franck 'Kaisla' Vase
An early ruby-red 'Kaisla' vase designed by Kaj Franck, Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland, 1952.
The soft & organic shape of this vase is free-blown whilst the linear decoration has been achieved using the complex Ariel technique, where precise air bubbles are trapped within the body of the glass object.
During the early 1950's Kaj Franck experimented with intricate glassblowing techniques such as Ariel and 'air-filigree' in a renowned series of decorative and functional glass objects produced by Nuutajärvi Glassworks. This particular design was produced in 1952 only.
