Kaj Franck KF 260 Tall Trumpet Vase
A substantial navy blue KF 260 vase, designed by Kaj Franck for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland, circa 1960.
The KF 260 is one of Franck's most architectural vase designs. A tall cylindrical body rises into a dramatically flared mouth, creating a strong geometric silhouette in an unapologetically Modernist expression. In this particular example, the intense depth and saturation of the navy blue glass lend further visual weight to the powerful form.
The richly coloured body is encased within a substantial layer of crystal-clear glass, terminating in a pronounced, rounded form within the vase's heavy base. This beautifully defined U-shaped section allows the deep navy blue interior to appear almost suspended within the clear glass.
Despite its apparent simplicity, the KF 260 exemplifies Franck's sophisticated use of proportion and colour. In this particularly successful example, the design's monumental form and intensely coloured glass combine to striking effect.
