Kaj Franck 'Vire' Vase
An exquisite 'Vire' vase designed by Kaj franck, Finland, 1953.
The precise decorative pattern within this vase has been achieved using an incredible 'air filigree' technique. The controlled, linear pattern is composed from a sequence of elongated air bubbles that brilliantly twist around the vase to form a geometric optical effect.
Nuutajärvi Glassworks produced this rare design from 1953-54 only.
Kaj Franck was paramount in the development of Finland's modern aesthetic during the mid-20th century. Much of Franck's work is still influencing product design today, whilst remaining thoroughly modern after 70 years.
