Modernist ‘Noelite’ Paving Sample Board
A highly decorative and colourful ‘Noelite’ paving block sample board, made & used in mid-twentieth century Britain.
Presumably, the wall mountable or free-standing sample board was either carried by a travelling salesperson’s or hung in a hardware store.
The six textured, ‘non-slip’, paving blocks advertised are different pastel colours, such as ‘stone’, ‘pink’, and ‘grey’. These colours, described by Noelite Ltd (of Borough Green, Kent) as ‘bright and cheerful’ are displayed within an off-white frame and a baby-blue coloured mount.
An advertisement we found in The Monthly Army List of May 1937 indicates that Noelite were making their paving, available in six colours, since 1927. Some of the company’s notable commissions before 1937 include Girton College -Cambridge, the Royal Enclosure -Ascot, and the Crown Estate Office -Windsor Castle.
