Nanny Still 1403 'Pagoda' Vase
Riihimäki glassworks will always be remembered for their vast array of 'hooped' vases produced throughout the 1960's. These pieces were not only a commercial success, but they greatly influenced the aesthetics of mass-produced domestic glassware during the mid-20th Century.
Designed in 1968, the 'Pagoda' vase features a concentric 'ribbed' design so indicative of the exciting era. Whilst the vast majority of Riihimäki's hooped vases were designed by Tamara Aladin, this tall 'Pagoda' was designed by another leading designer, Nanny Still, and offers a subtly different handwriting. The regimented hoops are sharper and more mechanical than the majority of Aladin's work, whilst the design and slim proportions are 'elegantly playful' - a contradiction so representative of Still's entire portfolio.
