Nanny Still 'Ametisti' Vase

Nanny Still's 'Ametisti' series of glass objects are from a period in time where her work was becoming increasingly fantastical & otherworldly. Her use of unexpected colours and strange shapes, along with her desire to push the boundaries of practical glass design, herald the confidence of a young designer experiencing notable success. 

The 'Ametisti' series displays clearly Still's sense of geometric form, along with her feeling for drama, but shows also her desire to utilise and challenge the Riihimäki glassblowers' skills; the folded rim, for example, appears on most items from the series and is particularly tricky to achieve in molten glass.
