Nanny Still's 'Ametisti' series of glass objects was designed in 1960; period in time where her work was becoming increasingly fantastical & otherworldly. Still's use of unexpected colours and unconventional shapes, along with her desire to push the boundaries of practical glass design, herald the confidence of a young designer experiencing notable success. 

The 'Ametisti' series displays clearly Still's sense of geometric form along with her feeling for drama, but also shows her desire to explore techniques, to utilise and challenge the Riihimäki glassblowers' skills; the folded rim, for example, appears on most items from the wonderful 'Ametisti' series, and is particularly tricky to achieve in molten glass.
