Nanny Still 'Harlekiini' Sugar Bowl & Creamer
A lidded sugar bowl & creamer from the 'Harlekiini' (Harlequin) series designed by Nanny Still in 1958 for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, Finland.
Demonstrating Still's confident sense of form & masterful application of colour, the 'Harlekiini' series elevated her career to new heights in the late 1950's and has become an enduring symbol of Finnish Modernism.
The full 'Harlekiini' collection includes around 24 elements such as decanters, jugs and jars. Most items are stemmed, with each turquoise-blue glass object composed from geometric shapes such as cylinders, cones and spheres.
This stylish duo includes a lidded sugar bowl & matching stemmed creamer. The elegance of Still's handwriting is especially apparent with the creamer jug, whose delicate form is particularly refined. The spherical lidded jar is elegant, also, and features a knopped handle in clear glass. The duo's unconventional appearance and bold colour make them not only eye-catching decorative objects, but also a beautifully striking statement if used at the breakfast table.
