Nanny Still 'Meripihka' Trio
A trio of 'Meripihka' (Amber) objects designed by Nanny Still for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, Finland, 1953.
Nanny Still's 'Amber' series consists of soft & organic forms which are reminiscent of pebbles or sea-glass. The decorative amber coloured objects are enhanced by the method of sand-blasting, which not only gives them a frosted appearance, but also contributes to their tactility.
The 'Amber' series is aesthetically very different from the majority of Nanny Still's work, however many of her trademarks & characteristics can still be observed; Still enjoyed experimenting with colour, and would often revisit traditional glassmaking processes in order to create arresting & elegant designs.
