Nanny Still Duo of Neodymium 'Saturnus' Vases
The leaps and bounds of perceived progression during the 1950's sparked a huge interest in science, space, and in human possibility. It may be easy therefore to attribute the inspiration for these vases, which date from 1960, as they appear to embody a literal representation of the Space Race, both in form and by name. However, instead of creating something gaudy or kitsch, Nanny Still has taken this optimism to design some of the most delicate and beautiful objects in her entire portfolio. The 'Saturnus' vase utilises the masterly capabilities of the most skilful glassblowers at the Riihimäki glassworks to create Still's own ethereal interpretation of an image of space.
Offered as a pair, these decorative vases feature a bulbous, spheroid body and dramatically flared rim, creating the impression of Saturn's ring.
Further contributing to their celestial & otherworldly nature, these exquisite Saturnus vases are made from colour-changing neodymium glass. In different lighting conditions, the pair change from a delicate lilac in natural light, to sky blue in fluorescent/white light.
