Nanny Still 'SV' Decanter & Six Glasses
Designed in 1950, Nanny Still's 'SV' series of table glassware is one of her earliest works for Riihimäen Lasi Oy.
Nanny Still's concept for 'SV' was to create a visual unity for the dining table, designing the carafes, tumblers, plates & bowls in a single uniform colour; a deeply pigmented turquoise glass with a beautifully rich green-blue hue.
Nanny Still's early works are predominantly influenced by Organic Modernism, and most forms in the 'SV' series are soft & gently curved. This decanter's subtle form is both elegant & practical. The defining feature is the unusual stopper, which consists of a cone with a folded top. Still's inspiration for this stopper is likely from the natural world, such as a flower bud, as other elements from the 'SV' series feature an abstracted motif of curling petals or leaves. The stopper's appearance however as a 'hat' has given this decanter design the nickname "Nukkumatti", a character from Finnish folklore.
This decanter is offered with six matching glasses, some with sticker. The glasses display the elegance of Still's 'SV' collection in their delicate form; a soft conical shape with narrow foot.
