Pair of Naïve Wall Sconce Shelves
A pair of unique early 20th century wall sconce shelves, handmade from oak in Britain, circa 1925.
The naïvety of these useful objects conveys an enchanting warmth and informality which is both attractive and endearing.
The gothic-inspired crenelations cut into the top of each shelf reminds us of the three-point crown motif used by Jean-Michel Basquiat. However, we believe the shelves were made in the 1920's by a young student, for a family member or a love interest.
The design has been carefully cut and assembled by hand. As a pair, they offer a great platform and backdrop for beautifully displaying many kinds of objects.
Whilst being handsome and usable items, the shelves also provide a tangible sense of something entirely and lovingly handmade. A sure way to inject character into any interior.
