Richard Rohac 'BBC' Vide-Poches
An elegant brass vide-poche designed by Richard Rohac and produced in his Viennese workshop for the Swiss engineering company Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC).
The modernist form of this tray is both functional and attractive, featuring slightly concave, tapered sides and grooves to each corner to hold a cigarette. The tactile form has been embellished with the BBC company logo; the tray was either designed for their offices, or produced as a corporate gift.
The Brown, Boveri & Cie company were known to also commission corporate gifts from Werkstatte Carl Aubock. These pieces are also without a maker's mark.
The object dates from the early 1950's, and retains original patina and verdigris.
