Saara Hopea Decanter & Six 'Marja' Cocktail Glasses
A glass decanter and six 'Marja' (Berry) cocktail glasses, designed by Saara Hopea for Nuutajärvi Notsjö, Finland, circa 1955.
The sleek, unpretentious form of this smoked decanter provides the clean and elegant sophistication associated with Nuutajärvi glassworks and Finnish Modernism as a whole. This refinement is also seen in the six 'Berry' cocktail glasses, with their simple, pleasing forms and restrained palette of grey, amber and indigo.
The crisp lines and geometric forms of this set are typical of Nuutajärvi's renowned production of the mid 20th Century, when their output of fine utilitarian wares provided excitingly modern pieces for the Finnish home, whilst reimagining homeware for the new, post-war world.
