Stig Lindberg Faience Leaf Dish
The success of Stig Lindberg's ceramic works for Gustavsberg is that each whimsical item retains the jubilant and eccentric characteristics of the designer himself.
Stig Lindberg is one of Sweden's most important and prolific designers, working across ceramics, texiles and illustration. His highly individual style was not only an instant success, but also seminal in the development of Sweden's modern aesthetic during the mid 20th century.
This leaf-shaped dish dates from the 1950's, and displays the unique characteristics of Lindberg's work that have ensured his enduring popularity. The playful shape has been hand-decorated with glazes and oxides in an abstract green 'tadpoles' design. The dish has an applied branch detail, which has been hand-decorated with a bark effect. This highly decorative and joyful object is also functional, being ideal to serve snacks to friends on a special occasion.
