Stig Lindberg Unique Bottle Vase
This large unique vase was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced in the art studio of Sweden's foremost ceramics manufacturer, Gustavsberg, in 1968.
The aubergine-coloured vase features Lindberg's signature combination of surface texture and earthy hues; attributes that define his unique works of the 1960's and 70's. During this period, Lindberg drew great inspiration from the colours and rusticity of the natural world, which can be observed in his wonderful & highly sought-after designs from the period.
This bottle-shaped vase features an all-over textured pattern pressed into the wet clay. The distinctive glaze is varied, with shades of purple & aubergine along with brown and black, each applied in an expressive and seemingly random manner. The purple colour is quite unusual in the context of Lindberg's unique works.
The vase itself is tactile & substantial with a hefty cylindrical form. Reminiscent of a chemist bottle, the cylinder vase tapers into a conical shape with a lipped bottle rim. Geometric yet historical in form, this decorative piece embodies Lindberg's casual approach to ceramic design. Whilst Lindberg's unique works from this period do not rely on the bright colours or characterful illustrations for which he became famous, they retain his distinctive quirkiness in their charming informality.
