Stig Lindberg Unique Vase
This unique vase was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced in the art studio of Sweden's foremost ceramics manufacturer, Gustavsberg, in 1971.
The vase features Lindberg's delightful combination of surface texture and earth-like hues; attributes that define his unique works of the 1960's & 70's. Whilst designs from this period do not rely on the bright colours or characterful illustrations for which Lindberg became famous, they manage to retain his distinctive charm & quirkiness in their informal-yet-elegant forms. This wonderful design perfectly highlights Lindberg's ability to infuse playfulness into his masterful creations
This piece features an earthy reddish-brown glaze with dappled areas of ochre and black. The textured walls, adding depth & character, are glazed in a light green-grey whilst displaying an embossed pattern of rectangles & squares.
Although the varied glazes & tactile nature of the object hold a certain allure, the true charm of this vase lies in the wonderfully unconventional shape. The square footprint & straight walls defy convention, whilst the large mouthpiece & swooping neck offer a strikingly distinctive silhouette.
