Stig Lindberg Unique Vase
This unique vase was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced in the art studio of Sweden's foremost ceramics manufacturer, Gustavsberg, in 1971.
The vase brilliantly highlights Lindberg's playful and eye-catching approach to design for which he is well-known. The unconventional form of this piece is not only stylish, with a bold mid-century aesthetic, but its strange silhouette also evokes a distinctive otherworldly charm.
The outstanding piece features a delightfully dappled aubergine, purple and oxblood red glaze. The varied glaze features rich hues of red which degrade into a speckled surface of pale purple; almost reminiscent of a distant galaxy with a billion tiny stars.
Lindberg's unique works of the 1960's and 70's often combine playfully unconventional forms with an imprinted textured surface. This piece, however, relies on the success of its form.
