Susan Parkinson Leaf Platter
A rare Leaf platter designed by Richard & Susan Parkinson, circa 1952.
The streaks of brown (red iron inclusions) in the glaze, as well as the test mark and variation of 'Made in England' impressed into the base suggest this is an early, pre-1955, piece.
In their book on the Parkinson Pottery, Cashmore & Smith-Vincent note two models containing the word 'leaf' in the list of new designs added to the pottery's 1961 catalogue. However, neither of the written names, 'Long Leaf Dish #126' nor 'Small Leaf Plate #153', match this leaf shaped design. The 'Small Leaf' was reportedly designed for salads but was too small for purpose. Whilst the 'Long Leaf' was very long, at 92 cm.
