Swedish Brass Soap Mould
A sculptural cast-brass soap mould in two halves. The item was produced in Lund, Sweden, in the early 20th Century.
Rarely do industrial objects sit comfortably in a domestic setting, yet this mould is highly decorative & reminiscent of the modernist and playful designs of Carl Auböck II. The tactile objects have a reassuring and substantial nature, achieved through the casting process. The oval forms have a crisp precision, owing to their intended purpose, whilst the antique metal is beautifully patinated with a warm hue.
These industrial objects are not only decorative, however, as they also offer a genuine practical use for the home, becoming a pair of vide-poche to store jewellery, loose change or other small items.
