Tamara Aladin 1364 Conical Vase
Tamara Aladin is best known for her vast array of vibrant 'hooped' vases produced at Riihimäki glassworks, Finland. The colourful, undulating forms embody the essence of the 1960's and were not only an enormous commercial success, but are definitive of an era.
This piece is a rare example of Aladin's more restrained work. Whilst most of her designs were largely inspired by the Pop-Art movement, this vase has its roots firmly in the purity and geometry of Finnish modernism.
The strength in form and depth of colour creates an exceptionally bold piece. The substantial conical vase has been hand-blown from dark aubergine glass, the colour of which is enhanced by the thickness of the vase's walls.
