Tamara Aladin 1565 'Kielo' Vase
Tamara Aladin will always be remembered for her vast array of 'hooped' vases produced throughout the 1960's and 70's at Riihimäki, Finland. These pieces were not only a commercial success, but they greatly influenced the aesthetics of domestic glassware during the mid-20th Century.
This olive green 'Kielo' vase perfectly encapsulates the joy of the 1970's and the playful informality of the era's aesthetic.
An archetypal example of Tamara Aladin's much-loved work, this vase was handmade in around 1974. The sculptural object is made up of two curved cones, with a ribbed band at the waist. The name 'Kielo' translates from Finnish as 'Lily of the Valley' with the fluted cones being Aladin's stylised representation of the scented woodland flower.
