Tamara Aladin 1750 Vinegar Bottle
A vinegar bottle designed by Tamara Aladin for Riihimäen Lasi Oy, Finland, 1961.
This delicate decanter is one of Tamara Aladin's earliest works for Riihimäki, and displays a softer, more organic expression than the bold and highly geometric style more associated with her work. The bottle, like a droplet of water, seems to draw influence from Organic Modernism; an artistic style perfected by Finland's glass designers during the 1950's. Early works by Aladin's contemporary and colleague, Nanny Still, are also in-line with this softened rendition of Modernist design.
This exquisite vinegar bottle represents one of very few table glassware designs by Tamara Aladin. Others, such as 'X-Serie', were designed during the same period and are as equally elusive. This object offers a rare window into Tamara Aladin's functional, rather than purely decorative, designs.
This vinegar bottle, with model number 1750, is handmade in an attractive lilac-coloured glass. The decanter's flared rim holds a distinctive glass stopper, which, like the design's body, also evokes of a droplet of water.
Although this piece was designed to hold vinegar at the dinner table, its elegance means the design is also appropriate for liqueur or schnapps, for example, or can be left empty as a highly decorative element in the home.
