Ulla-Maija Vikman 'Puisto' Vases

A group of 'Puisto' (Garden) vases by Ulla-Maija Vikman for Riihimäki, 1968. 

This trio of vases serves as a reflection of the youthful, playful and exciting era of the 1960's. Vikman was just an intern at the glassworks when this series was put into production, and each piece embodies her bright optimism. The vases are abstract representations of flowers and trees, conveyed using joyful shapes and vibrant red glass. Each piece is hand-blown into a turn-mould and then 'planted' into a base of clear glass.

Vikman chose not to work in glass for long, instead becoming a successful textile artist whose work is featured in museum collections worldwide.
